Bremen Police Department’s K9 Taro to Receive Protective Body Armor

The Bremen Police Department’s K9 Taro will soon be better protected thanks to a charitable donation made through the organization ‘Vested Interest in K9s’.

Department officials recently shared that Taro’s vest will be delivered within 8-10 weeks The vest will be bullet and stab protective and will be embroidered with the sentiment “honoring those who served and sacrificed.”

The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $950 and Taro’s vest was sponsored by Deborah Kostakos, a resident of Annapolis, Maryland.

Each vest weighs about four to five pounds, comes with a 5-year warranty and is valued between $1,744 and $2,283.

A Vested Interest in K9s is a non-profit organization located in Massachusetts that was established 2009.

Throughout the United States, there are approximately 30,000 law enforcement K9s. The goal of the organization is to provide agencies with potentially life saving body armor for their four-legged K9 partners. Since its inception, more than 3,500 vests have been provided at a value of about $6.9 million.
