Plymouth BOW Members Presented Contract for Historic Footbridge Project

Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul presented the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members Monday night with a contract with INDOT and the Local Public Agency regarding the LaPorte Street Historic Footbridge project to get the funds needed.

Gaul noted that the contract is for the award of construction funds and construction engineering in the amount of $1,310,400 which will be paid for by grant funds that equal 80 percent of the project cost.  The city’s share would be 20 percent which is about $42,800 for construction engineering and $284,800 for construction.  Gaul stressed that the bids could change these numbers as these are preliminary figures.

The board members approved the contract with a unanimous vote.

According to city officials, the downtown landmark will be reconstructed with a new bridge deck and railing, repair of the superstructure and substructure, full cleaning and painting of all components, and new ADA accessible approaches.
