La Casa de Amistad Holds Soft Launch of PRIDE Cards

Officials from La Casa de Amistad held a soft launch of sign-ups for the Plymouth Resident Identification Endorsement Cards Friday night at the Plymouth Community High School.

La Casa de Amistad Development Coordinator Juan Constantino said many of the city officials were on hand to sign up for their cards as well as a few other citizens invited to the event.

Constantino explains how the card assists Plymouth residents.

“It allows them to identify themselves within the city limits of Plymouth with city agencies because it was approved by the city,” said Constantino.  “What the means is you’ll be able to turn on your water or simply identify yourself with police officers, city fire, maybe some of the local clinics, and even the library.  It has very many limits, but for the most part I can tell you it will say ‘this is who I am and this is where I live’ and it stops there.”

Additional sign-up days have already been scheduled.

“Folks can now call La Casa de Amistad to schedule an appointment and people have been calling!  February 7 is our first appointment day.  We’ve got it scheduled for three hours and we’ve already got 60 appointments booked.  We’re probably going to get into the 70s and 80s for Friday and that will lock up there. We’re already getting appointments scheduled for February 15 so we think within the first six months to a year we’re really going to be jam packed with appointments.”

Plymouth is the third city in the state to offer this service, following South Bend and Goshen.
