The John Glenn School Board is reviewing plans for a walking path in North Liberty as it is adjacent to land owned by the school corporation.
The proposed path would take the trail east from School Trail south beyond the track, it would curve to go south along the school property, cross Center Street (State Road 4) and join Tamarack Trail. A boardwalk would need to be installed on the land east of the school as the trail would run into some swamp land (the light blue, yellow and maroon lines in the picture below).
Superintendent Christopher Winchell said it’s the preferred path in the school’s perspective as the previous proposal sought to cut across the track on the school’s property (the dark blue line) which met a negative response from school officials.
The school board would eventually need to consider an easement for the path as it runs along property at the North Liberty Elementary School. The plans should also include a fence around the school to provide security to the school’s campus, as suggested by Superintendent Winchell.
Winchell said he attended the most recent meeting of the North Liberty Town Council who said they’d look at the plans that are favorable to the school board.
No decisions were made during last week’s meeting. More finalized plans by DLZ will be brought before the school board for action in a future meeting.
