The John Glenn School Board members reviewed a proposal to purchase a new phone system for the corporation.
IT Director Andrew Stegemiller explained that the phone system currently uses a fiber internet connection but the new phone system will use a VOIP, cloud-based system.
The current system is over 10 years old and was not a brand new system at the time it was installed. The repair technician who could assist with maintenance of this older equipment retired and the system is getting to the point where there are more issues that are more difficult to repair with a lack of parts.
Stegemiller said any issues with the new system can undergo repairs remotely. If the school board is not happy with the provider, another company can easily take over operations.
Stegemiller mentioned that he hopes the new system can be initiated in May.
John Glenn School Superintendent Christopher Winchell noted that the phone purchase has been in the budgeting process for several years. This particular purchase will be made with money through the General Obligation bond.
Three bids were obtained for the project. The school board unanimously approved an upfront cost of $21,980 with ENA for the phones and system. From there, the school will engage in a three-year contract with the company at a monthly cost of $1,918.51 which covers the maintenance of the system.
