Request for Proposals for Historic ‘Old Gym’ in Bourbon due in March

With the New Year upon us, community members are reminded that Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for the Bourbon Community Building, commonly referred to as the ‘Old Gym’, will be due in a few months.

During recent school board meetings, Superintendent Jeremy Riffle has continuously highlighted the efforts of a few individuals who have been vital to this process thus far including Athletic Director Mason McIntyre, School Attorney Tim Shelly and Indiana Landmarks Northern Regional Office Director Todd Zeiger.

Riffle recently mentioned that the gym was included as one of the complimentary projects in the Marshall County Crossroads’ Regional Development Plan, so there’s a chance that some funding may be allocated for renovations.

While the funds would be helpful in sprucing the place up a bit, Superintendent Riffle noted that they’re still looking for proposals for a long-term lease or sale of the gym.

In an Indiana Landmarks article, it was noted that that school officials are actively seeking individuals and organizations with ideas for the historic building’s reuse and funds for its rehabilitation.

The deadline to submit a proposal is Friday, March 13th. The School Board is expected to review those proposals and reach a decision by Thursday, April 30th and could possibly take action during their meeting scheduled for Monday, May 11th.
