Outstanding unpaid checks written by the City of Plymouth in 2017 will be canceled following information given to the Plymouth City Council Monday night.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver said there were about 25 checks not cashed by the recipients totaling $727.59 which will be receipted back into the city’s operating funds.
At times, when residents are owed a refund or overpayment amount, a resident may leave town and city officials are unable to track down that person to get that payment out to the individual. The letter may come back as undeliverable. The resident may also lose that check. Xaver said they attempt to do the best they can to get those funds to that person, but oftentimes the check goes uncashed.
Xaver said the city is allowed to go through this process of cancellation as put forth in Indiana code.
