ISP Reports Semi-Truck Driver Fell Asleep, Resulting in Single Vehicle Crash on U.S. 31

Both lanes of US 31 have reopened to traffic after they were temporarily closed following a single vehicle accident involving a semi truck this morning (01/06).

Earlier today, the Indiana Department of Transportation reported an overturned semi on U.S. 31 and noted that the road was closed just south of 19th Road in Marshall County. Indiana State Police Sergeant Jeff Whiteman stated that one lane was opened back up around 9:30 a.m. and both lanes were re-opened shortly after 10 a.m.

Sergeant Whiteman noted that a preliminary investigation revealed the driver was traveling in a semi-tractor trailer with the back end full of a metal substance when they reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.

No injuries were reported and the driver was apparently issued a ticket for driving while suspended. Police do not believe that drugs or alcohol were factors in this case.
