Those thinking about running for office in 2020 can start filing on Wednesday. Several county offices are on the ballot this year.
Marshall County voters will choose judges for Circuit Court and Superior Court 2, a district two county commissioner, three at-large county council members, and a district three council member. Marshall County’s coroner, treasurer, and surveyor will also be up for election this year.
In Starke County, commissioners for districts one and three, the three at-large county council members, the county surveyor, and the treasurer will all be on the ballot. Pulaski County voters will have a number of offices on their ballot, including county commissioners for districts one and two, the three at-large county council members, plus the county auditor, treasurer, and recorder.
Those living in Winamac will get to choose the clerk-treasurer and the town council members for districts one, two, and three. All Medaryville town offices are on the ballot for a second year in a row, due to the change in the town’s election cycle.
Of course, 2020 is also a big year for state and federal elections, with the president, governor, Indiana attorney general, and senators and representatives all up for election.
Candidates have until February 7 at noon to file to run in the May primary. The voter registration deadline for the primary is April 6. Residents have until the close of business that day to register at their county clerk’s office, or until midnight to register online at IndianaVoters.com. On that website, you can also check and see whether you’re already registered.
Those planning to run for an elected school board seat in 2020 can file between July 22 and August 21 to get on the November ballot.
