The Argos Town Council took action to reimburse a local farmer when members met for their final meeting of 2019.
According to Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney, farmer William Voreis planted some crops that could not be harvested. Around 8.89 acres were lost due to land-mining associated with the expansion project at the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation’s manufacturing center that is now the new home of Sequel Wire and Cable.
Officials determined that Voreis was owed around $726 per acre so he will receive approximately $6,454 to compensate him for the crop-loss.
As a reminder, Voreis received a reimbursement back in August as well. A total of 12.11 acres were tilled and fertilized but nothing could be planted on the property due to the anticipated property sale. At that time, he was paid $5,331.31 for machinery costs, fertilizer and other expenses associated with the process.
