Triton School Board Authorizes Two Different Projects to be Advertised

The Triton School board authorized two different projects to be advertised when members met for their December meeting.

Superintendent Jeremy Riffle said one of the projects will be addressing some aged seating in the High School gym.

He explained, “We are looking to replace the bottom bleachers in our varsity basketball gym. Those are original to the building, so 1968.”

He noted that when the bleachers are replaced, they will make sure they’re ADA compliant and up-to-date with the latest safety requirements.

Another project for re-surfacing the four of the six tennis courts will also be advertised after receiving school board approval.

Riffle noted that while two were upgraded more recently, most of the other courts were last resurfaced more than 10 years ago. At that time, financial assistance was received through a community foundation in a neighboring county.

He added that officials there have indicated they will provide a contribution for this purpose once again and additional grant funding is also being sought out.

Riffle stated, “Kosciusko County Community Foundation actually helped us do that in 2005 and we actually just received word that they’re giving $75,000 towards that and I just finished a grant for the Marshall County Community Foundation for the same thing to kind of offset some of that cost.”

Superintendent Riffle noted that cost estimates were acquired for both of these projects so school officials could make sure they were feasible. However, he said with the projects now advertised, he expects that the competitive nature of the bidding process will bring those initial figures down.
