In an effort to assist high school students in working at their own pace in English/Language Arts classes, the John Glenn School Board members discussed the purchase of computer software for that purpose.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell said the IXL program can be a useful tool for students in that subject.
“It can be used to remediate holes that they have in their learning. It can also be used to challenge students who may be moving faster than the rest of the group,” said Winchell.
The program has been offered to students in the past with success in both English/Language Arts and Math.
Winchell recommended that the school board enter into a three-and-a-half year contract with the company at a discounted rate of $18,000. Business Manager Tom Bendy said a high school textbook fee of about $7.00 will be assessed to help recoup some of that cost.
