Two people perished in a two-vehicle accident in Marshall County Monday morning,
According to the preliminary investigation conducted by Indiana State Police Trooper Dave Caswell, a maroon passenger vehicle was traveling southbound on Miami Trail after 11 a.m. when the driver disregarded a stop sign and traveled underneath a semi tractor-trailer going westbound on U.S. 6.
The driver, Mark Ley Jr., 38, and the passenger, Krystal Smith, 36, both of Kendallville, were killed on impact, according to Marshall County Coroner John Grolich. The driver of the semi, Valery Ryshkevich, 36, of Chicago was not injured.
The accident occurred at the site of the Indiana State Police-Bremen Post.
The Bremen Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Marshall County Coroner’s Office, Lutheran EMS, Bremen Fire Department, INDOT, and Reichert-Knepp Wrecker Service assisted at the scene.
