The Plymouth City Council members will look into a part-time position with the Aviaton Department following discussion on a proposed ordinance for that position Monday night.
An ordinance would add a part-time position in that department that allows a 16-year-old to work there, preferably a student from the Aviation Program, according to Airport Manager Bill Sheley.
Council member Jeff Houin inquired about 16-year-old employees and what is allowed on the insurance as far as operation of equipment. Sheley said the ordinance was patterned similar to what the park department has in its ordinance. He noted that they would operate vehicles, but they would rarely leave the airport property.
Park Superintendent Michael Hite said they only allow those who are 18 years of age and older to operate heavy equipment, such as mowers, due to insurance provisions. Houin said he’d like to look into that further before the next reading of the ordinance at the next meeting. Councilman Don Ecker, Jr. said it should be streamlined with all departments.
More discussion will be held during the next meeting on Monday, Nov. 25.
