Plymouth City Council Considers Ordinance Regulating Solar Permit Fees

The Plymouth City Council members recently considered an ordinance that pertains to solar permit fees. 

The ordinance comes with the recommendation of Building Commissioner Keith Hammonds after consultation with Michiana Area Council of Government Senior Environmental Planner Leah Thill.  The permit fee schedule is related to various solar energy installations.

A rooftop solar energy system permit is $100 while a micro system permit is $60, the small system permit is $100 and the medium permit is $150. 

Large solar energy permits begin at $200 for a 40,000 square foot system to less than 2 acres.  It will be $400 for a permit that is 2 to 5 acres, $600 for a system that is 5 to 10 acres, $1,000 for a system that is 10 to 20 acres, $1,500 for a system that is 20 to 50 acres, $2,000 for a system that is 50 to 100 acres, and for a system that is greater than 100 acres, the permit fee would be $3,000. 

The ordinance was passed on second and third readings with a unanimous vote.
