Illinois Man Accused of Driving Over 100 mph and Striking Another Vehicle

An Illinois man was arrested in Marshall County Tuesday afternoon after allegedly driving over 100 miles per hour on US 30 and reportedly striking another vehicle.

According to authorities, shortly after 1:15 p.m. on November 19th, Marshall County Central Dispatch advised of a vehicle going approximately 100 mph traveling westbound on US 30 from State Road 19.

Plymouth Police Officer Jeremy Enyart reports that he observed a vehicle traveling westbound at an excessive speed and shared that other Plymouth and Marshall County officers were in the area as well and they clocked speeds around 108 mph.

After officers had engaged the emergency lights and sirens, the suspect driver apparently continued westbound, failing to stop at the red light at US 30 and Oak Drive.

Enyart stated that it wasn’t until the suspect couldn’t maneuver around semis that were also traveling westbound in both lanes when he finally came to a stop.

The driver was identified as 21-year-old Malik Jones, of Cicero, Illinois. During the investigation, Officer Enyart said it was discovered that Jones had allegedly also struck one other vehicle while driving recklessly on US 30.

He was arrested and transported to the Marshall County Jail where he was lodged for resisting law enforcement, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Readers are reminded that suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
