Highway Superintendent Alerts Public about Upcoming Change to Bridge Signage

Peters stressed that this is an example of what the signs will look like. The tonnage is not accurate for Marshall County’s Bridges

Due to the load rating of certain bridges within Marshall County and the weight of Emergency Vehicles EV3 and EV2, particular bridges within German, Center and Green Townships will have new signage posted nearby.

Marshall County Highway superintendent Jason Peters reports that INDOT has mandated that those Emergency Vehicles must be considered when determining load ratings and posting weight limit signs on all Indiana bridges.

In his announcement about the anticipated changes, Peters said he also included adjacent roadways since any vehicles exceeding the posted limit would have to avoid certain areas leading up to the bridges as well since they won’t be able to cross.

He noted that in German Township, new signs will go up on 3rd Road from Fir to Grape, Fir Road from 6th to 7th and Elm from 6th to 7th.

In Center Township, the Randolph Street Bridge will need new signage and it will be enforceable from Baker to Becknell.

The bridge on 17 B road in Marshall County will also require new signage and it will impact from Linden Road to Maple Road.

Peters said while none of the local departments currently have a vehicle that will exceed the load limit, it may come into play in the future if assistance is required from a neighboring county that does utilize them.

No specific date has been provided but Peters said they’re hoping to have all the new signs installed by the end of the year.
