Argos School Superintendent Discusses Hold Up with New Teacher Contract

Argos School Superintendent Ned Speicher reports that the corporation’s 2019-2020 teacher contracts won’t go into effect until next year due to a hold-up at the state level.

Speicher explained, “We’re wanting to implement our new contract but we’re still embargoed by the state on being able to do that until they pass the new ‘hold-harmless’ provisions by the General Assembly.

He noted that there was a possibility that the matter could have been resolved this week but that was not the case.

He shared, “There were some thinking that the state might have acted on the 19th when they had their organizational day on Red for Ed day but they didn’t so it looks like that won’t be acted upon until January.”

Superintendent Speicher said that school board members discussed the topic during their meeting this week and provided approval for teachers to receive ‘back-pay’ when the contract is enacted in January.

So despite the delay, teachers will receive the approved raises they missed in the first semester retroactively.
