MCEDC Introduces Future Generation of Workers to Local Job Opportunities

The Marshall County Economic Development Corporation recently shared that they are proud to be working in conjunction with local manufacturers and Bremen High School to help address the need for a skilled labor force.

According to an MCEDC press release, the organization has worked with local manufacturers to have schools take part in Manufacturers Day.

This program is a national event that gives students a unique opportunity to learn more about a field that often goes overlooked.

Since 2014, Bremen High School has participated in Manufacturing Day. Over the years, the event has grown and now includes freshmen, to get them thinking about potential career paths early.

Officials shared that around 113 seniors will tour some of Bremen’s largest manufacturers, including Southwire, Nisco, Bremen Castings Inc., and Indiana Carton Company Inc. In addition, around 117 juniors will get the chance to visit Universal Bearings, Precision Painting & Interiors, and Digger Specialties Inc.

Bremen High School Principal Bruce Jennings stated that this unique learning day gives students an opportunity to see career possibilities that they may not have considered before and noted these tours will also allow students to see the day-to-day operations of businesses in the community.

The press release includes the fact that the Bremen High School has also extended programming to include more opportunities to expose students to a variety of career paths.

Approximately 148 sophomores will tour Bremen Town Hall, Bremen History Center, Bremen’s Train Depot Museum, and the Sunnyside Park water plant to learn more about their town.

More than 115 Bremen freshmen will have the opportunity to tour Horse Saddle Shop, Special Editions Car, Southwire and the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Giving these youngsters exposure to a wide variety of career choices they may not have considered before.

MCEDC President and CEO, Jerry Chavez mentioned that Manufacturing Day is a unique event that will help ensure Marshall County students are career-ready. He added that it is an excellent opportunity to expose students to a variety of job and internship options that exist right here in our community.

Officials note that the benefits of this event can be seen throughout Marshall County. Plymouth High School, Argos Jr./Sr. High School, and Culver Community Middle/High School are also visiting local businesses as part of Manufacturing Day.

All Marshall County schools are being encouraged to participate in the future to further develop Marshall County’s workforce and connect businesses with the next generation of employees.
