Marshall County and the City of Plymouth were recently awarded with the SolSmart Award.
Plan Director Ty Adley and Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt presented a plaque to the commissioners last week.
Adley commented that the county was awarded the SolSmart Gold Award for the department’s efforts in streamlining processes to make it easier for residents wanting to go solar in Marshall County.
“We’re one of 300 in the entire nation, and very few have actually received the Gold Award which is the highest recognized by the Department of Energy for the United States,” stated Adley. “We’re going through that process with the assistance of MACOG (Michiana Area Council of Governments) and it’s a huge endeavor. We were able to make it easier for citizens to be able to move forward with that opportunity in the election of how they want to receive energy.”
Adley explained that a lot of the work was going through the current ordinances and inspection processes.
“We are in the middle of revised those solar ordinances now and they will be before you at the end of this year and the first of next year which will also accompany some additional solar amendments for some projects coming down the line.”
The SolSmart award was also awarded to the City of Plymouth. Building Commissioner Keith Hammonds made the announcement to the Board of Works and Safety members earlier this month.
