The Bremen Town Council members received an amended trash ordinance Tuesday afternoon.
Town Attorney Anthony Wagner outlined a few of the changes.
“Basically, it addresses littering, but also accumulation of trash on properties from a public nuisance standpoint,” explained Wagner. “You can always approach it under the state statute but it doesn’t hurt to have an ordinance violation that I can put on there. I usually do multiple counts when I do those types of enforcement action.”
Wagner said some defunct state statues were also taken out of the proposed amendment. One other aspect of the document that Wagner will need to put in the amendment is which entity will report the violation and enforce it.
He asked council members to read the document and to refer any questions or changes to Director of Operations Trend Weldy.
The council is expected to review the document again at their next meeting in November.
