Argos officials recently took steps to rezone a property on State Road 10 from Light Industrial (L-1) to Agriculture (Ag).
The property is nearby the company Vanadco Signs which is in a Light Industrial zone.
The request to rezone came from the Stauffer family who looking into the possibility of potentially placing a residence on the property in the future. While that cannot be done when it is zoned L-1, it can be done if it’s in a residential or agriculture zone.
The request was made to change it over to Ag rather than R-1 because all other surrounding properties, except for Vanadco, are also zoned Agriculture.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney explained that in order for a property to be rezoned, the request first has to go before a Technical Review Committee (TRC). Mullaney said a TRC meeting was held back in September and at that time officials determined that the request was reasonable.
The request was then handed over to the Plan Commission. They held a public hearing over the matter on Wednesday this week prior to the Town Council’s meeting.
During that hearing, owner Jay Stauffer spoke in favor of the request and no other public comments were provided. Plan Commission members also found the request to be acceptable and provided a favorable recommendation to the council to permit it.
As a part of the rezoning process, the Town Council members also had to hold a public hearing and did so before their regular meeting on Wednesday. No comments were submitted at that time.
The last step was to pass an ordinance that would officially rezone the property located at 10750 SR 10 from L-1 to Ag. That ordinance was unanimously approved during the council’s regular meeting.
