Another industry plans on expanding in Plymouth.
Steve “Butch” Sabo from AK Industries, Inc. approached the Plymouth City Council members Monday night with a request to declare certain real estate at 1420 Stanley Dr. as an Economic Revitalization Area.
AK Industries, Inc. is a producer of fiberglass and polyethylene products for the wastewater industry.
A vacant building on the property is being acquired to expand the company along with existing space. Plans include the addition of an injection molding division, resin transfer system work, as well as a division that includes hydroaction.
There will be $500,000 invested in real estate and another $1.5 million for machinery and equipment. More jobs will be offered as a result of the expansion. Sabo explained that initially, 10 new jobs will be available immediately to help get things started with 30 more jobs to become available later in the process. The company currently employs 140 people.
The Plymouth City Council members approved a resolution that allows the company to move forward with the process of developing that area as an Economic Revitalization Area. This paves the way for a request for tax abatement down the line.
