Plymouth BOW Approves Trick-or-Treat, Downtown Halloween Event

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members approved trick-or-treat hours for the city for Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Plymouth Chamber of Commerce also requested the closure of Michigan Street from Washington to La Porte Streets for the annual downtown trick-or-treat event on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Connie Holzwart said the merchants will be moving out into the street to pass out candy this year along with other planned events.

Fire Chief Rod Miller asked to keep La Porte Street open for purposes of accessibility.  Holzwart commented that maybe a reserve officer could help with traffic in the area to help keep kids safe in that area.

Business Owner Brian Van Duyne suggested that porta potty units be available during the event to relieve the added burden of businesses to provide a public restroom during the event.

Board member Bill Walters made a motion to approve the request with the omission of La Porte Street, along with the suggestion to provide porta potty units.
