Plymouth to Serve as Site for American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Wall

Community members are invited to honor, respect and remember lost heroes this week as the City of Plymouth serves as a site for the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Wall.

The wall will be in Plymouth from Thursday, September 12th through Sunday, September 15th. It will be located in the parking lot area of River Park Square so it will be accessible to everyone.

While it will be available to view starting at noon on Thursday, an opening ceremony will be held at 7 p.m.

Mayor Mark Senter will provide opening remarks and the keynote speaker will be District 17 Representative Jack Jordan. Following the conclusion of the opening ceremonies, the wall will be on display 24 hours a day until its closing on Sunday.

Other events anticipated to occur in conjunction with the display of this memorial include a ceremony to honor local Vietnam Veterans at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 13th and a ceremony to honor local first responders at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 14th.

The tribute wall is an 80 percent scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC. It spans 360 feet and is 8 feet tall at its highest point. In addition to the 58,282 names of soldiers who were lost during the conflict, statistics and a timeline will be displayed for visitors to view.

Volunteers will be onsite to provide assistance and will be available to help locate the names of lost veterans starting at noon on Thursday running until 9 p.m. They’ll also be available from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday.
