The Plymouth City Council members took action on Monday to transfer funds within the Aviation Department fund to cover a shortfall.
Airport Manager Bill Sheley explained that the high school aviation program wasn’t included in the budget planning for 2019 and they need to move some money around within the budget to help out some other funds.
“Last year at this time we had only just begun talks about the high school program and Alpha Flight didn’t exist here,” said Sheley. “When we put our budgets together last year I didn’t expect the amount of growth and everything going on that we had at this time – hoping for it, but didn’t think it would happen as quickly as it did.”
He said the airport has experienced an increase in fuel sales and rent as a result of the increased activity, but it doesn’t help with the 2019 budget.
The council unanimously approved the resolution as presented which would transfer $4,200 to necessary funds.
There are about 30 students enrolled in the Alpha Flight aviation program at the Plymouth Municipal Airport.
