Monday Night Barn Fire Prompts Death Investigation

A Logansport man was discovered deceased Monday night when authorities responded to the scene of a fire on 14th Road.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Monday, September 16th, the Marshall County Central Dispatch received an emergency call regarding an individual needing assistance in the 11,000 block of 14th Road. Secondary reports were then received that there was a fire at the same location.

Officers from the Marshall County Police Department were dispatched to the scene along with Plymouth and Argos Fire Departments. Upon arriving, a fire was located in and near a barn. After conducting a search of the area, a worker was found deceased near the location of the fire.

The man was identified as 22-year-old David Chavez Fajardo. Next of kin has been notified.

The Marshall County Coroner’s Office was called and Deputy Coroners Les Trump and Bobby Cooper responded to the scene to officially confirm the death.

Upon completing an initial investigation of the scene, authorities believe the incident is a workplace accident that resulted in the death of the worker. However, the official cause of death is pending autopsy results.

An investigator from the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office was summoned to the scene along with investigators from both the Plymouth and Argos Fire Departments.

The exact cause of the fire is still unknown. However, an LP truck that was believed to have been damaged early in the incident is believed to be involved in at least part of the cause.
