The flashing stoplight at the intersection of Jefferson and Center Streets in Plymouth has some drivers happy with the better flow of traffic, but Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt told the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members Monday night that efforts are being made to make improvements at that intersection.
He said they need to replace the controller and light heads with the stoplight and upgrade the lighting at a cost of $25,600 which is in his budget. The street department will coordinate with INDOT to time the lights off of Michigan Street which is a state highway.
While some drivers are happy with the flashing stoplight, Marquardt said he’s gotten some complaints that it’s harder for pedestrians and students cross the streets in that area which is a huge safety concern.
The board members agreed to let Marquardt move forward with the project with Michiana Contracting. It won’t be done for another four to six weeks.
