The Bremen Town Council members considered sending out to bid the proposed storm sewer replacement project in Parkview Subdivision.
Ken Jones from Jones, Petrie and Rafinski (JPR) said the design phase is complete and the project is ready to go out to bid. The project will be advertised in October with bids to be opened during the council’s first meeting in November. The project wouldn’t start until spring of 2020.
The project is estimated to be just under $500,000.
Jones, along with Water, Storm Water and Street Superintendent Alex Mikel, recommended an alternate bid for paving the entire subdivision. Jones noted that if the bids come in too high, they can reject all alternate bids.
“Some of the street surface in that subdivision is pretty okay,” stated Jones. “The only reason why we would suggest that is because in the area where the storm sewer is we’re going to have a significant trench which will be filled up with mill and fill. If you wanted to end up with a nice, uniform looking street throughout the entire subdivision, then we would add that alternate.”
Jones and Mikel also said if the bids come in too high, they could submit it as a Community Crossings project where 75 percent of the cost would be paid for by INDOT.
The town council members voted unanimously to bid out the storm sewer replacement along with the alternate. The project will be paid for with sewer bonds. Road resurfacing is not covered under the bond amount.
