Argos Town Council Considers 2020 Budget Ordinance on First Reading

The first reading of the 2020 Budget for the Town of Argos was considered when members met last Wednesday.

According to the notice to the taxpayers provided on the Indiana Gateway for Governmental Units, Argos has a total budget estimate of $1,972,456 for 2020.

That amount is broken down into specific line items, with the majority of the money, $1,125,386, designated for the General Fund.

Additionally, $40,000 has been budgeted for the rainy day fund, $60,000 has been listed for local roads and streets and the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund is expected to have $280,000.

There is also $115,750 set to go toward the EMS and Fire Departments and the cumulative capital improvement fund is anticipated to be $50,000 next year while the cumulative capital development fund has a $25,000 budget estimate.

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said the ordinance was passed on first reading, though the vote was not unanimous, with Council President George Null abstaining due to his position on the Fire Department.

The budget will be up for adoption during the council’s next meeting on Wednesday, September 18th.
