The Plymouth Community School Corporation is “ahead of the game,” when it comes to its emergency plan. That’s what Director of Safety and Security Ted Brown told the school board last week.
He said school officials are always looking at what changes are being made throughout the country to see if there are any that would apply to Plymouth, and he is not recommending any significant changes to the corporation’s plan this year. Brown did update some of the language regarding how students would be reunified with their parents after an emergency.
He told board members that reunification kits have been distributed and school employees are being trained on the procedures. He said he’s still in the process of getting written agreements with the various locations that might be used for reunification, if a school would have to be evacuated. The updated emergency plan was approved by the school board, unanimously.
When it comes to school bus safety, Brown said Plymouth Schools’ newer buses have been getting stop arm cameras, and meetings have been taking place with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Plymouth Police, and the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office. He also pointed out that there’s grant funding available to law enforcement agencies, to help police crack down on stop arm violations.
