Plymouth Residents Voice Concerns over Proposed Parking Restriction on North Street

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members were made aware of feelings of those living in the North Street residential area Monday night about a proposed parking restriction there.

At the last meeting, a representative from Winona Building Products asked that no parking be implemented on one side of North Street to assist the maneuverability of semi truck traffic to the factory that is often routed that way via GPS directions.

Board member Jeff Houin thought about restricting parking on both sides of North Street from Michigan Street to Plum Street.  He asked that the street department notify the homeowners in that area, and if there are concerns those opinions may be voiced at an upcoming board meeting.

Several residents spoke out about the decision to restrict parking and discussed safety of pedestrians and children in that area.  Residents also said it would create a hardship for parking at some homes.  Of those who spoke, they stressed that the area is residential and it should stay that way.  They said semi truck traffic should use the preferred truck route on Hoham and Western Avenue to get to Winona Building Products at 506 North Street.

After hearing the concerns raised by the residents on North Street and surrounding areas, the board voted unanimously to deny the request by Winona Building Products to restrict parking on North Street.

Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt will be looking at areas where signs could be placed to direct truck traffic to Hoham and Western Avenue.  The representatives of the business will also be encouraged to instruct delivery drivers to use the preferred route.
