The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate a structure fire in the 2,000 block of Plymouth-LaPorte Trail in Walkerton.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 5:30 p.m. on Monday and remained there until 3 a.m. Tuesday morning. The Polk Township Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Walkerton Fire Department, Walkerton EMS, North Liberty Fire Department, Koontz Lake Fire Department, Bremen Fire Department, Plymouth Fire Department, and the Lakeville Fire Department.
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department officials say that the property owner was at home at the time of fire, but was able to get out of the home. However, a dog perished in the fire.
They say the damage is extensive and investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire. The scene remains under investigation with the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
