The John Glenn School Corporation is transporting students from the Greene Township area to schools this year to accommodate those attending class in the four schools.
The board members asked for a breakdown of numbers and information of students who are riding the bus during their last meeting.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell stated that 58 students utilize the transportation service.
“Of those 58 students, 37 of those students live in Greene Township,” said Winchell. “Of those 37 students, 31 of them are returning students and 6 of them are brand-new students.”
Winchell also said 21 students who do not live in Greene Township and who attend John Glenn Schools are benefiting from this bus route.
“Of those 21, 7 of those kids used our shuttle bus last year from the Church of Christ, 9 of those kids were elementary students whose parents were driving them all the way to North Liberty so now they’re getting on in Greene Township and saving a new miles. Four of those 21 who are outside of the township are brand new to the corporation.”
The board members want to keep track of this route to make sure it’s beneficial. Due to the large number of students taking that bus, no more students will be accepted to be transported on that bus this year.
Winchell previously noted that the corporation was fortunate enough to have one extra bus and one extra driver to accommodate those students this school year.
