All of the building administrators at the four schools with the John Glenn School Corporation reported a successful start to the school year last week.
Walkerton Elementary School Principal Tim Davis and North Liberty Elementary School Principal Randy Romer told the school board Tuesday night that there were several backpack and school supply donations from several organizations to the students at the schools which everyone appreciated.
The pair also discussed successful reading programs over the summer with over 50 students at each school participating in reading programs.
Superintendent Christopher Winchell said a luncheon and convocation with teachers prior to the start of the school year focused on building relationships with kids and the community. He said the team was challenged with two new goals.
“One of those is celebrating excellence and the other is remembering that it takes a village to raise a kid,” said Winchell. “I didn’t want any of our teammates, whether that was classroom teachers, bus drivers, maintenance, or cafeteria, I didn’t want anybody to underestimate the impact that they could have on a child positive or negative. We want to emphasize the positive impact that all of us can have on kids.”
The convocation included recognition of staff members and longevity. He noted that one staff member received a standing ovation for Mr. Brown who is starting his 44th year at the John Glenn Schools.
