Fort Wayne Man Arrested after Bourbon Burglary Call

A Fort Wayne man is in custody after alleged burglaries and a pursuit with police officers in Bourbon.

The timeline of events began on Sunday, Aug. 18 just before 1 a.m. when an employee at the Bourbon liquor store engaged an alarm call after items were allegedly taken from the store.  As a Bourbon Police Department officer arrived at the scene, the suspect reportedly left the store driving west of Lincoln Highway.  As the Bourbon officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, police say one person fled the vehicle on foot.  The vehicle continued west on Lincoln Highway.

The pursuit reportedly continued west on Lincoln Highway to the area of Iris Road where police say the driver, 34-year-old Laydon Nathaniel Butler-Umanos, drove his car over stop sticks deployed by an officer from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.  The vehicle ran off the roadway and was involved in a property damage collision east of King Road, according to the report.

During the investigation, police found items that were reportedly taken from the Bourbon Liquor Store, and items that were reported stolen from the Country Church located north of Bourbon.

Laydon Nathaniel Butler-Umanos was transported and booked into the Marshall County Jail on felony charges including burglary.  Additional charges are pending with the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers from the Plymouth Police Department also assisted at the scene.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
