When the Argos Town Council met for their final meeting of the month, members were informed that some money that is owed to a local farmer as a result of the recent sale of the Manufacturing Center and some surrounding property.
Argos Community Development Corporation President Mark VanderWeele presented council members with a document that showed how much of a reimbursement is owed to farmer Bill Voreis.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney explained that Voreis leases farmland from the Town and a total of 12.11 acres were tilled and fertilized but nothing could be planted on the property due to the anticipated sale.
It was determined that he was owed $5,331.31 for machinery costs, fertilizer and other expenses associated with the process. Members voted unanimously to pay the reimbursement.
Additionally, another payment may be owed in the future. Mullaney said that since some land-mining is currently going on for the planned expansion, there is a chance some neighboring crops could be damaged. In November, the farmer is expected to assess the fields and officials will be notified if another reimbursement will be necessary.
