School bus safety is at the forefront of every school corporation. John Glenn School Superintendent Christopher Winchell told the school board members last week about new legislation that students and bus drivers will need to be sure to follow this upcoming school year.
According to Recording Secretary Lisa Sleek, the legislation states that no student is allowed to cross a highway to board a bus unless it’s in town where the speed limit is slower. She noted that Winchell stressed that upon review of the upcoming bus routes, bus drivers do not pick up students on any of the major highways in the district. However, there are students that cross county roadways in order to board the bus.
School officials ask that when school starts in the next few weeks, be sure to watch for a school bus stop arm and stop for students who are boarding the bus.
