Argos Town Council Forgives Mowing Lien on Michigan Street Property

The Argos Town Council members voted to waive a mowing lien against a Michigan Street property during their meeting on Wednesday.

The property is where the former Bethel Tabernacle Church is located and Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney shared that a lien worth $930 was recorded there.

The Argos Community Development Corporation (ACDC) is reportedly interested in purchasing the property to demolish the disheveled building there to utilize the land for future development.

This is the second piece of property on Michigan Street that the ACDC is looking to buy. The Corporation also purchased the former Wesleyan Church about a block away to do the same thing.

The plan, which has been addressed in previous meetings, is to construct single-family housing units on the plots since the current structures are in such disrepair.

Mullaney explained that since the Town funded the start-up of the Community Development Corporation, it essentially seemed self-defeating to charge them for the lien that existed from former ownership. It was forgiven so the property can be sold without the debt attached to it.
