Marshall County Plan Director Updates County Council on Operations

Marshall County Plan Director Ty Adley updated the Marshall County Council members this week on zoning violations in the last five months.

He reported that Code Enforcement Officer Rob Hurford has been working to ensure properties stay compliant with county expectations and codes.

Adley said eight warnings and 16 fines have been issued so far with eight cases at the court hearing level.  Four cases are complete.

He added that sometimes it takes a few months for residents to comply with code enforcement issues.  It all depends on how far the violation continues until compliance is accomplished.

A big difference with the addition of the code enforcement officer is follow-through with initial warning letters.

“Previously, it was pretty quiet because our ability to follow up prior to receiving a code enforcement officer was hit-and-miss,” explained Adley.  “We’d get out there, send letters, and approximately two months later we’d go back out and try to follow-up again.  Now that we have that additional time and opportunity we’re able to regularly go out, follow-up and keep the whole the process rolling forward.  It’s been a great asset.”

Currently, the code enforcement officer works three-and-a-half days a week, splitting time in the planning commission office and the building commissioner.
