The comprehensive plan for the Town of Argos was addressed during the public input portion of last Wednesday’s council meeting.
The citizen asked the council to consider displaying more accountability when it comes to accomplishing short-term and long-term goals in the comprehensive plan.
He noted, “People are going to get frustrated if we keep talking about things we’re going to do and then we just don’t get them done so I just thought that maybe the council could work out some kind of schedule or something where they just make sure that they get in this comprehensive plan.”
A comprehensive plan is intended to summarize a municipality’s core values and to map out ideas and initiatives. The comp plan for the Town of Argos runs through the year 2030.
Since its creation, there have been some visible efforts made to address certain objectives set forth in the document.
For instance, officials have been able to grow the Town’s community events with the continuation of the Argos Summer Kickoff Festival and the introduction of TGIF Argos this summer.
Additionally, officials have been taking advantage of the Community Crossings Matching Grant program to improve segments of road, as laid out in the plan. Just this last year, more than $926,000 was secured for various paving projects.
They’ve also been coordinating with Red Door Marketing to assist with implementing a ‘shop local’ incentive program and marketing campaign which is another goal that appears in the plan.
