The interim cemetery superintendent in Bremen confirmed his retirement in October.
George Misner took over as the head of the department following Steve Ervin’s sudden passing on April 22. He told the Bremen Town Council members this week that the past three weeks have been an adjustment, but he will help the new cemetery superintendent with any needs.
“I really appreciate all of the help,” commented Misner. “Like I said, I’ll honor Steve’s six months because I was going to retire anyway in October on the 11th. You know, I’m a phone call away. If I’ve got to get into my Alfa Romeo convertible on a convertible day to come to Bremen to help somebody out, I’ll be retired and I can do that!”
“We appreciate you stepping up with the loss of Steve,” said Council President Michael Leman.
Misner replied, “He would have done the same thing. He was like a brother to me. It’s been tough.”
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy told the town council members that he will advertise the position internally for 48 hours and if no applications are received then he will advertise externally.
Until then, Misner said work continues to clean up the cemetery grounds in time for Memorial Day observances. Street Department Superintendent Alex Mikel has been sending two of his employees to the cemetery to assist with digging and maintenance needs.
