Plymouth School Board Agrees to Seek Bids for High School HVAC Upgrades

The Plymouth School Board has decided to move ahead with upgrades to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system at the high school. Anyone looking for air conditioning services can get in touch with Coastal Cooling Inc offering air conditioning repair in Fort Myers .Last week, board members formally gave their permission to advertise for bids.

The project includes the replacement of the building’s chiller (visit Highway HVAC Services & Remodeling Group website to find out about their packages), along with unit ventilators in several classrooms, according to Superintendent Andy Hartley. “It’s a bit timely,” he said. “If you recall, this past fall, we did have some air quality issues, and they were in the classrooms that are being addressed by this.”

Brian Bohlender with architectural and engineering firm Barton-Coe-Vilamaa told board members that the documents include a base bid along with a few alternates. That will allow the school board to adjust the number of rooms getting new ventilators, depending on the cost.

He explained that several of the old horizontal ventilator units would be replaced by vertical models with duct work through the ceiling to distribute the air throughout the room. The new systems should also be quieter than the ones they’re replacing, according to Bohlender.

A pre-bid meeting is scheduled for May 28. Bids will be opened June 11, and the school board should be able to choose a contractor during its July meeting. Bohlender said the work could be spread throughout the fall and winter, wrapping up in early 2020.

Superintendent Hartley reminded board members that funding for the work was factored into the bond issue for the Lincoln Junior High School building project.
