As the REES Theatre group members head into the third phase of restoration on the iconic downtown Plymouth area structure, there will be intermittent closures of parking spaces and the alleyway to accommodate work efforts.
REES Theatre representative Don Wendel told the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members Monday night that the back exterior wall of the building will be rebuilt which will require the closure of the alleyway adjacent to LaPorte Street in order to complete the work.
“We know when we do that back wall there’s going to be a three to five week period when the alley will be closed,” said Wendel.
He mentioned that there could be times where parking spots will be used on LaPorte Street in order for the construction crews to keep materials as they work.
“This is the third phase out of four so we’re putting on a new roof, stabilizing the foundation, rebuilding that back wall, and concrete work inside the facility to start up with new steel.”
Wendel stressed that the work will be done as it can from now until September.
The board members approved the request as presented.
It is the hope of the REES Theatre supporters that a grant is approved to fund the fourth and final phase of renovations that concentrate on the inside of the building.
