The John Glenn School Board is taking a step to help students get heart screenings.
The board members made the decision last week to donate $1,500 to the Zac Mago Foundation to help screen students at the school corporation for possible heart issues.
Zac Mago was just 17 when he took a nap in the afternoon of July 5 and died of Sudden Cardiac Arrest. He was just a month away from entering his senior year of high school at John Glenn High School. He was a standout athlete and gifted student. He also gave back to his community who now gives back to Mago’s memory with the Zac Mago Foundation.
According to the organization’s website, the mission of the Zac Mago Foundation is to bring awareness, education and prevention to conditions that could cause Sudden Cardiac Arrest in teenagers. Organization officials will team up with a company who provides heart screenings. They recently completed screening students at the Union North United School Corporation. With the John Glenn School Board’s donation, the same screenings will be available to John Glenn students sometime this month.
A dinner and silent auction event to help raise funds to assist the Zac Mago Foundation is planned for Saturday, July 13 at 6 p.m. ET at the North Liberty Community Building at 300 S. Main Street in North Liberty. Tickets are $25 apiece or $45 for a couple. Proceeds will support the foundation’s mission to screen teens for heart conditions that could lead to Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
