High Water Prompts Road Closures

As water levels continue to rise, Highway Department crews work to monitor the depth of water on roadways.

Starke County Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler says all roads in the county have some sort of water cover.  One road is closed due to dangerous levels: 900 E. from 550 S. to 625 S.

Officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation say that State Road 10 between U.S. 31 and State Road 331 in Marshall County is closed due to flooding at Deer Creek.

In Marshall County, Highway Superintendent Jason Peters closed nine area roads for safety.

Those roads include:

Hawthorn to Gumwood

King Road to Jarrah Road

Grape to Hickory

7B to 7th

Iris to Hawthorn

Beech to Cedar

West of Rose

6th to 7th

Hickory to Gumwood

High water signs are visible on several other roads in the county.  Peters urges drivers to seek an alternate route of travel.  Don’t attempt to drive on roads that are closed by barricades.
