The Bremen and Culver Police Departments will participate in the Click it or Ticket enforcement through the Memorial Day holiday.
Officers will be watching for unrestrained drivers and passengers in cars and trucks. They say Indiana law requires the driver and all passengers to be properly restrained while a vehicle is in motion. Children under the age of eight must be properly restrained in a child car seat or booster seat.
If the seatbelt doesn’t fit you, or you have an older car with lap belts only, ask a professional for a seatbelt adjuster, extenders or retrofits.
Officials say an unrestrained motorist becomes a projectile that can injure or kill others in a car in a crash.
The Bremen and Culver Police Departments will be joining other law enforcement agencies in the U.S. enforcing seat belt laws during this time period. Overtime police patrols are paid with funds administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute through the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
