Plymouth school officials are updating the student handbook to reflect changes in state law. The 2019-2020 handbook was presented to the school board Tuesday.
One change is the addition of language on “Low THC Hemp Extract.” Dean of Students Ken Olson said the goal is to make sure those substances are administered by a school nurse. He said the concern is that students might administer the substances themselves, using a Juul or other vaping device.
At Plymouth High School, two new student organizations are being added into the handbook: a Culinary Club and Finding Light, an organization designed to raise awareness of mental health issues. Job shadowing will be added to the high school’s list of excused absences, and graduation requirements have been brought in line with the new state standards.
Tardy policies are being updated at both Plymouth High School and Riverside Intermediate School.
