Plymouth Street Department to Purchase Bucket Truck

The Plymouth Street Department will be replacing its current bucket truck with a newer model.

Superintendent Jim Marquardt told the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members that the boom on the current truck dates back to 1966 and couldn’t pass the certification process. The inspector said he wasn’t allowed to pass a piece of equipment that old. He also noted there were cracks in the turntables so it was taken out of service.

In his search for a different bucket truck, Marquardt found that new trucks are over $280,000.  In researching used trucks, Marquardt said he found a used, refurbished one in Illinois for about $60,000.  He went to the location where it was being sold along with a mechanic and other department representatives and found the truck to be a good fit for the department.

With the help of Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver, he was able to move some money around in the budget in order to get the truck.

The additional appropriation request for the $60,000 was approved Monday night.  The truck is in use now.
