Lunch prices will likely be going up at Plymouth Schools. The school board voted Tuesday to raise the cost of a regular student lunch by 10 cents, starting next school year. Milk and breakfast prices are set to go up by five cents.
On top of that, a recent school lunch nutrition review determined that the price of ala carte items will have to increase by a dime, according to Business Manager Kandi Tinkey. The cost of reduced-price student lunches appears to be staying the same, but adult breakfast and lunch prices will go up by a dime.
Superintendent Andy Hartley said the increases were being recommended, based on expected USDA requirements, and that they’re not something school officials desire. Tinkey explained that the USDA’s price requirements are typically based on the paid lunch equity form, which incorporates data on the number of meals served and revenues over the past year. She said once it’s finalized, the results will be presented to the school board.
